Poland plans for additional Black Hawks
On 21 July 2023, Poland launched a tender for the procurement of additional Sikorsky S-70i Black Hawk helicopters. No specific numbers were mentioned, but according to Janes the Polish Armed Forces are looking for 32 Black Hawks.
The Polish Armaments Agency has started the negiotiations process with PZL Mielec for acquiring the medium transport and utility helicopters.
Currently, the Polish Armed Forces operates four S-70i helicopters with the special forces unit GROM. In December 2021, four additional Black Hawks were ordered.
Next to GROM, the Lotnictwo Policja (LP, Police Aviation) has three S-70i Black Hawks in its inventory. On 9 December 2022, they signed a contract with PZL Mielec for the purchase of two additional Black Hawks.
The to be ordered Black Hawks will be used with the Airmobile Forces and will co-operate with the Leonardo AW149 and the to be acquired AH-64E Apache Guardian attack helicopters.
