On the southern edge of the inhabited part of Bahrain lies this helicopters base. Both the Air Force and Navy rotary fleet are based here. Security is as tight as one would expect. Be aware, plane spotting is neither understood nor appreciated in Arab countries!
The main apron and short runway plus helispot form an integrated hardened surface. A second apron annex helispot lies on the other side of a few centrally located hangars. The northeastern half of the field is occupied by buildings and the whole is partly surrounded by a wall. The immediate surroundings are slightly lower than the base.
From Manamah drive south to Isa Town and then follow highway 80, the Estiqlal Hwy, to the southeast. After passing the east side of Riffa (Rifa'a) this dual carriage road ends at Alba Roundabout. Here, take Al Musakar Hwy to the right, it passes along a factory with a dozen lined-up smoke stacks and leads to the base.
This derelict Sea King can be inspected, even on the inside, but has so far escaped identification. (spot 3, Ml. Elik)
