General

This modern air base in the southern desert of Gulf state Bahrain hosts all of the country's military aircraft apart from the helicopters at Riffa. Its remote location keeps it clear of curious looks and the flying weather is close to perfection. Be aware, plane spotting is neither understood nor appreciated in Arab countries!

Layout

A vast piece of desert around the 3800m runway belongs to the base. In the east the shore forms a natural barrier and on the other sides fences and walls have been put up.

Getting There

A newly constructed highway leads south from Riffa to Ad Dur and further on to artificial peninsulas under development on the southeastern tip of the main island. This is the highway that touches the airfield perimeter.

Around the Airport

1Main apron

Although it is obviously advisable to only go spotting here on arranged visits, the brave may try and read aircraft parked on the northern half of the large main apron.

2Final 15

A bit less risky may be stopping near the highway entry of the base road (think of a good excuse) to log traffic using runway 15.
