General

Leticia is Colombia's southernmost town and access point to the large Amazone region. From Colombia, the town can only be reached safely by air. Its airport doubles as a Forward Operating Location for the military.

Layout

Leticia's lay-out is fairly simple with a single north south runway and all facilities located around the apron, which can be found to the south east. Since the Amazon river features as the border with Peru and can be found immediately south of town, flights usually avoid Peruvian airspace by using runway 21 for approach and runway 03 for take-off.

Getting There

You are likely to reach the town by plane from Colombia, or alternatively, by boat from either Brazil or Peru. The airport can be found immediately north of the small town, you won't have any trouble finding it.

Around the Airport

1Terminal area

The terminal area provides some views of the apron, but all gates are heavily guarded and photography is therefore not recommended.

203 Threshold

The area around the 03 threshold is fairly open, despite the airport being surrounded by thick rainforest. Although the road crosses a military garrison views can be obtained of aircraft using runway 03 for take-off or taxiing to the end of the runway for a U-turn after using runway 21.

321 Approach

The 21 approach can be reached by following the road east of the airport. Near the threshold a dirt road bends to the right, from which views of aircraft on approach can be obtained. Photography is not recommended but best in the early morning.
