1Southern ramp

If you enter from the southern exit, take the first right and go straight. At the t-junction there is a hangar in front of you. Both to the left and right of this, ample views of the southern ramps can be gained.

2Northern ramp

The airport ramps can be viewed from various angles. The north western access road leads to a roundabout and from the nearby fence you have an overview of the northern ramp.

3North side approach - p.m.

Exit the airport onto the Avenue des Droits de l'Homme and go right. Take the exit at the large roundabout towards the Eurexpo, Boulevard de l'Europe. In the exit there is a patch of tarmac barred by boulders. Park your car and walk to the fence for landing shots, good from early afternoon onward.

4North side approach - a.m.

For morning light, follow the road past the threshold and towards the gate of the Eurexpo. Before the gate, walk along the fence towards the runway.

5South side approach - a.m.

Go back to the Boulevard des Droits de l'Homme. You can go clockwise or counter clockwise around the airport. If you go clockwise, turn right and go right onto the D29 past the golf course. At large roundabout on the outskirts of Chassieu, go straight. Go right, first exit at the next roundabout, Avenue du Progrès. Follow this until it meets the D306, go right again. The road bends left and the next roundabout appears. Go right. When the road bends sharply away from the airfield perimeter, go left onto a small patch of old road.

When going counter-clockwise, go left onto Droits de l'Homme. Go straight at the roundabout and left onto the D306. After passing the southern entrance to the airfield, the road bends to the left and later to the right around the threshold. You will then have reached the same roundabout, go left, three quarters.

6Southwest side taxiway and approach

This spot is just south of the Sécurité Civile area. It can be reached by entering the airport on the south side, go right at the first roundabout and right again immediately. This road bends right and left between some houses and then goes straight on until it meets the fence. Actually, this road used to be connected with the one at spot 5, but the runway was altered and the road does not exist anymore. From this corner you have first class view of all proceedings on the southwest side, the taxiway to runway 34 and the approach with afternoon light.

7Eurexpo parking lots

The huge grey area on the map in the northwest is only open if there is a fair going on. If the gates to the parking lots are open, you can enter this area and drive up to the airfield fence. This provides an excellent view of the ramps and into open hangars. The parking is not for free alas.

8Preserved Mirage

Opposite the airport, on the other side of the Avenue des Droits de l'Homme, there is a military complex. It is the Ecole des Services de Santé des Armées. From the gate guards room, a preserved Mirage can be seen. From the southern airport exit, go right towards Bron on the Avenue Charles de Gaulle, the D506. It is the first exit to the right after the main cross road with Avenue des Droits de l'Homme.
About 100 metres along the fence you might just be able to see the preserved Alouette 3 also, you have to look through some trees an bushes. It is parked behind some buildings on the west side. If that does not work out, you can take the next right and follow the footpath that runs outside the Fort and between the Fort and the barracks. Again lots of undergrowth, but at least you are much closer now!
