The origins of the airport of Ghedi go back to the pioneers of the flight. In fact the city of Brescia can boast the paternity of the first "International Air kept Race" in september 1909. Some of the aces that participated in that occasion were Curtis, Calderara, Rougier and Leblanc. Atthe beginning of the First World war, the city of Brescia accommodated a military airport that was built close to Ghedi. 75° Gruppo had the assignment to defend the city since 1916. From then on the history of the airport of Ghedi has always been connected with the Italian Air Force and numerous Groups and Schools of Flight. In the fifties the base was renamed to Lieutenant Alfredo Fusco, owner of the Medal of Gold to the Military Valor. At the same time the air base was restructured in order to accommodate jets. At this moment the base houses 154° Gruppo with the Tornado IDS/IDT and some S-208s.
The airport has a northwest - southeast orientated runway with all the buildings to the east. There are some shelters to house the Tornados.
The base is close to the city of Ghedi, south of the Dolomities and east of the city of Milan. It is located south of the A4 highway. In Brescia exit this highway and continue towards Montirone and then to Ghedi. Coming from the south, take the A21 towards Brescia, exit this highway near Menerbio and switch to the SP668 towards Ghedi.
Depending on type of aircraft, you will need between 150mm and 300mm at spot 1. ( Diego Crotti )
At spot 2 you are close to the aircraft and will need between 100mm and 200mm for some nice, low shots. ( Diego Crotti )
