Layout

Bardufoss Airport is situated at Bardufoss in the municipality of Målselv in Troms, North Norway.
The airport is primarily military, but also serves a few civilian flights. In 2009, the airport had 175,408 passengers.
Norwegian Air Shuttle currently operates three daily flights with a Boeing 737 aircraft to Oslo Airport, Gardermoen.
The Norwegian Aviation College (NAC) is also located at the airport. Other users of the airport include a flying club and a parachute jumping club.
At Bardufoss Air Station, also located at the airport, the Royal Norwegian Air Force operates Westland Lynx MK 86 helicopters (337 Squadron) for the Norwegian Coast Guard as well as Bell 412SP helicopters (339 Squadron).
The Royal Norwegian Air Force Flight Training School (LFS) is also located at Bardufoss. These three units are all part of the 139 Air Wing.

Most activity finds place on the north side of the airport. In the north-north-east part of the airfield you will find the hangar of the LFS with the NAC hanger next to it. With a large ATC tower in the middle of the airport, here you will also find the terminal building. In the south-souht-west side of the airport you will find two large hangers. The most left hangar belongs to 339Skv as the right belongs to 337Skv. In the old shelter area you can find some stored UH-1 helicopters, but those are hard to see from the outside. Due to the high mountains around the airport, larger aircraft always land at runway 28. At the side of runway 10, higher ground is preventing this kind of aircraft to land at this runway. Although it gives you a great view onto the airport.

Getting There

The most easiest way is to fly in with Norwegian who has a shuttle service from Oslo-Gardermoen. From Tromso it is also possible to get to Bardufoss. Just follow the E8 southbound to all the way to Nordkjosbotn. From here enter the E6 who will take you all the way to Bardufoss.

Around the Airport

1Military gate

Here you will find the main gate towards the military part of the airport. Just behind the main gate a UH-1 is preserved on a pole, which can easily be photographed from the outside.
