1Terminal area
The terminal building provides limited views of aircraft parked on the apron, which can be seen nose on. Large windows give some views but only on ground level. Not a good place to loiter around for too long.
2Runway 12/30 - west side
A bit north of the terminal another spot exists, which is the only spot at Rygge with views on the runway and western taxiway. For runway shots, trees prevent wide views, so you have to act quick when taking a pic. For shots on the taxiway this spot is ok. Photography is best late in the afternoon, since you are on the west side and will have the sun in your back by then.
3Approach 12 - west side
The best spot to watch flying activity, but definitely not a great spot for photography, is near approach 12. At the roundabout at the highway exit a small place to park your car can be found, between the roundabout and the highway. From here, approaching aircraft can be seen. Alternatively, climb the highway overpass for good views, and high visibility. Views are best in the late afternoon, as the east side of approach 12 is not suitable for viewing, due to the omnipresent woods. Moreover, Flypassveien, the road to the military gate, is on military property.
4Approach 30 - west side
The southern approach is very hard to reach, and well-hidden in the woods. However, two options exist. The first is to go to road no.118 south of Halmstad and capture the approach from the west side of the highway. You can actually cross the highway as well; the overpass probably provides better views, although a bit close to the action. The name of the street to take from road no.118 is Stoaveien. You are fully visible here with your camera though, which may not be too comfortable near the military base.
