General

An Nasriyah (الناصرية) air base is situated north east of the village on a little-used desert road, no.7. This is an alternate to get to touristy Palmyra, when you ignore the signs but take the scenic desert route. Mind you, the whole area on both sides of the road is military terrain!

Be aware, plane spotting is neither understood nor appreciated in the Syrian Arab Republic!

Layout

The base has a single north east-south west runway. Near both thresholds, some shelters are situated, most are in the north west corner. These include huge 4-way shelters, drive-through ones and regular shelters. The place is surrounded by desert and military terrain but is open. So the green on the map is basically all sand!

Getting There

From highway 5 running north to Hims, Hamah and Aleppo, take the exit at Al Qutayfah (القطيفة). Leave the village on the east side, on road no.7 to Muadamyat as Sam (معظمية الشام). That village is about 2.5 km east of Al Quatayfah. Make a left when the road forks. You will now be heading for Jayrud (جيرود) and this is a short cut. In Jayrud you will join road no.7 again which goes to Al Quaryatayn (القوريتين). After leaving Jayrud, it is only 10 km to An Nasriyah.

Around the Airport

1South west side approach

Some 2 km north of the village of An Nasriyah, the main road bends right and you can go straight. You have to ignore the sign stating it is not a public road though... So do not go too far into this road. The approach runs parallel to this street, but the threshold is still 3 km away.

2North east view

Following road no.7, you will under pass the rail road track. Shortly after, you can go left at the cement factory. After 4.5 km the road bends right, away from the air base. From here, you can see MiG-23s should they be parked in front of their shelters. These are some 2.5 km away though, about the same distance as the threshold. The centre line is about 900 metres west of you.
