Re: Crash MozambiqueAF MiG-21 in Romania

Sorry, I made a mistake, they broughy only one L-39ZO serial 254 (origin unknown) and 8 MiGs (probably 2 UM and 6 bis) Their pilots learned to fly on Aerostar Festival light planes (company owned) at Boboc and on their overhauled L-39 at Bacau. This was spotted only in natural metal overall, with Ro...

Re: Crash Roemanian MiG-21

MiG-21UM serial 340, Mozambique AF
It wasn't a Lancer.
The Mozambicans brought 2 L-39 and 8 MiG-21 bis/UM for overhaul at Aerostar.
Their cadets are also being trained at Boboc and Bacau since winter 2012

Re: Portugal (!) is to buy extra F-16A jets according to Jan

Here's the explanation: Portugal had on sale 9 F-16 MLU (7 AM and 2 BM) and didn't want to sell anything else from its AF. Romania wanted 12 (a minimal squadron), and conditioned the deal on this number. So the Portuguese had to come up with 3 additional MLUs, not from their stocks, that's why they ...

Re: LIBYAN MIRAGE F1s AT MALTA

Securitate Puma's shooting at unarmed people in Timisoara... That didn't happen, Roel. Securitatea did not have any Pumas or armed aircraft / helicopters, and no aircraft opened fire during the repression before Ceausescu left (16-21 Dec). In the confusion and chaos that followed after 22 december ...

Re: VIDEO: Iran's "Stealth Flying Boats"...

In fact it's an exact copy of the Soviet Ekranoplan ESKA-1 from the 70's (except the engine type and open cockpit):

Re: Romania: deadline American used F-16 offer was this Tuesday.

Some sources within the MoD indicate that a small number of Lancer C will go trough yet another life extension program at Bacau, in order to be able to serve post 2013, only for air policing tasks. The refurbishment will cost 1,2 million US dollars per plane, with about a quarter of that sum going t...

Re: Israeli CH-53 Yasur crash in Romania today

The CH-53 hit a stone cliff while flying in fog at 15:20 local hour, in formation with another CH-53. Don't the Yasurs have ground mapping radar or something? The Romanian was an Air Force Captain, not a soldier. The crash site is more precisely S-E of the village Fundata, in Bucegi Mountains. At le...

Re: Australian Navy chooses MH-60R over NH90 ?

Not a surprising choice, considering that all 11 MRH-90 delivered so far are grounded since April after an in-flight engine failure.
