Today I made a quick visit to the "Spottersplek" along the Kaagbaan runway 06-24.

It is possible again to drive your car from the N201 "mayor road" along the Aalsmeerderweg (and Kaagbaan 06-24 runway) via the Oude Meerweg and the S-apron to Truckland without having to use the "new road" which is "heavy haulage only".

Now even the concrete tubes/pipes ("betonbuizen") have been shoved aside so large lorries/trucks have no problem using the Oude Meerweg.
Of course it is still "one-way traffic only"!

This also means that the "Spottersplek" can still be reached by car.

Exit "Hoofddorp" on the A4 motorway Leiden towards Amsterdam is temporarily closed though, so some non-locals may still have problems reaching the Spottersplek.

Except for the KMar ?? Last friday they passed me there in opposite (wrong) direction. It wasn't an emergency ride, no blue flashlights and/or sirens, so illegal ! Give 'em a uniform and a striped car and they think they can trespass every traffic rule......

Actually, they can. Even without uniform or stripes, if they act within their directives.

Sorry for my poor understanding of Dutch, but is the 06-24 spotters place staying open for good, or is it just being closed later than originally thought?

Cheers,
Richard

A spokeswoman of Amsterdam Airport has stated that the latter is the case. So it is only a "stay of execution"... :(

Locals around the "new" temperorary spotters place have lodged legal complaints with the local council of Haarlemmermeer against this "new" place.
Work at the "new" place has now finished but if the inhabitants of Haarlemmermeer directly in the vicinity launch legal proceedings against opening this place it could take months :!: before this new venue is allowed to open.
In the end spotters and daytrippers (yes, we are being treated equally...) will get new facilities. The precise location(s) still has/have to be determined.
Nice to see that Schiphol authorities have seen reason and will not close down the "old spot" until the "new one" is allowed to open! :D

Even so many people will lament the passing of yet another good photo vantage point... :(

There is a cemetary a walking distance away just over the bridge. I suggest you park there. Don't think the deceased will complain quite as much as the NIMBYs.

What I do not understand is that Schiphol has made the new place a temporary spot. I was under the impression this would be definitive. Must admit the place did look a bit small compared to the Kaagbaan spot, as well as a tad further away from the runway.
