... in the early nineties former East-Germany was the place to be. Just an example to show is Su17M-4 '28 orange' at the flightline of Templin Air Base, former East-Germany:

Nice Ruskies, Jeroen! The Su.17M-4 most likely was from the withdrawal day on 5 April 1994.
A Red Star from my archive, a rare Ilyushin Il.20. The ELINT version of the Il.18, which could be had on the Sperenberg's Open Day, 27 May 1994. It was not on the public side, but could be reached by crossing through some woods. An East German speaking Russian convinced the guards of the necessity to photograph this bird.

... Sperenberg's Open House meant also the end of the Russians presence in former East-Germany and more or less the end of the Cold War. Anyway a 'product' of the Cold War was the B-1B bomber as seen here approaching Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada after a Red Flag mission with the famous Sunrise Mountain in the background:

A Cold War icon was the Lockheed SR-71A Blackbird. This strategic recce jet already bowed out shortly after the Berlin Wall came down. In this image, it can be seem dropping its huge braking parachute upon arrival at RAF Fairford for IAT 1989, 21 July 1989.

I am scanning USN Vipers for someone and came across these. I shot them in 2003 when they were in service for only a few months. They were rapidly painted over, but we saw 8 grey c/s ones. Here are a few.

Cheers,
Peter
