There is also a market for small General Aviation at Amsterdam, perhaps we should have them in again en-masse as well?
Do you happen to know why Rotterdam doesn't get that many small General Aviation visitors any more over the last few years? We do... :roll:
It's called something like "handling charges" which now applies to all visiting aircraft.

And what's your point? The airport decided (just like Amsterdam) that the core business wasn't small GA visitors. A small aircraft uses a certain part of the noisequota, just like bigger aircraft do. In order to maximise revenue, you pay for use of that quota. Sounds like a good idea from a business point of view.

Now, from the GA point of view, that's an entirely different story, but that's not the point here.

I wouldn't necessarily describe the opportunities as missed, as it's more likely that those opportunites were turned down as part of the greater strategy/long-term plan. As Key said, I'm surprised how much of a ruckus this relatively minor event has caused, and especially how the airport (and it's management) is being blamed for perfectly reasonable business decisions made by the handling company.

I've got the impression that the airport accepted the flight as the airport authority innitially gave slots for this flight. So apperantly from the airport side is was okay. And as far we can see from here same was only countermanded by the fact of the handling not being able to serve the An12. Which by all means remains rediculous if that is treu.

Slots are not granted by the airport authority, but by the government.

I did send a letter to Mr van Aartsen, the mayor of my hometown The Hague that the name of our beautyfull city must disappear from Rotterdam The Hague "Airport".

No way that our name must be linked to an "airport" that can't handel a An-12.

For sure he will agree and I think Mr Aboutaleb (mayor of Rotterdam) has the same opinion and in the near future that piece of land will be called Zestienhoven again.
