Clean Tech Development Center will fly An-2 N244MJ on biofuel from California to Twente. It should arrive on August the 18th.

Ze zitten volgens mij nu in Oshawa (naast Toronto). Dan weer de states in, vervolgens Moncton-Goose Bay-Iqaluit-Nuuk-Kulusuk-Reykjavik-Vagar-Edinburgh-Duxford-Antwerpen-Twenthe.

Update:

Aircraft at CYOO, this weekend installing the bio fuel system in aircraft, awaiting measuring equipment from Oregon, and aircraft hopefully will be out test flying locally on Monday.
Then must meet all FAA approvals - slow red tape - before departure to NL in 'late August'.

The Bio-fuel 'system' doesn't as far as I know need to be 'installed', and does not need FAA approval. Aircraft has already made a number of flights on bio-fuel, which simply replaces 100LL.
The plan is for a 50 hours inspection to take place in Oshawa, and the flight is scheduled to continue after the weekend. ETA in Twenthe is currently planned for approximately 16 August.

Yes and no.
The field is closed but not for the 'local' operators, such as the flying club, school and gliders. I guess this also holds true for the Clean Tech Development Center guys.

Noted at EHTW last saturday was a civil yellow Polish AN-2. It stood in the former 313 sqn shelterarea. Is it in anyway connected to the above?

Also, anyone for the ID of this AN-2 (SP-...)?

Does someone know when the An-2 will arrive?
It was planned for today (August 18th), but reading the blog I assume they won't make it today...

By the way, it seems that abroad they also get a lot of attention from the media. A pity that the media coverage here is not so well.....

Small update:

The An-2 was planned to arrive at Twenthe this weekend or shortly thereafter.
However, and here it comes: they are not allowed anymore to land at the airfield and they will end their journey at Klausheide (Nordhorn, Germany).

According to the article the owners of the airfield did not allow it!
Well, I can only say that with this attitude they can better stop trying to get the field open again.
You get a chance to promote your airfield, and turn it down. Shame......

ENSCHEDE/ NORDHORN - Captain Ben Cappelle van een Poolse Antonov AN2-dubbeldekker, die deels wordt aangedreven door biobrandstof, mag niet landen op de vroegere vliegbasis Twenthe. Cappelle, zijn broer Ruud en co-piloot Maik Feijen zijn op dit moment bezig met een transatlantische vlucht van de Verenigde Staten en Canada, via Groenland, IJsland en Ierland naar Europa. Het trio, geliëerd aan het bedrijfje Clean Tech Development Center (CTDC) uit Enschede, wil het gebruik van milieuvriendelijke biofuel (groene kerosine) in de luchtvaart promoten.


De driekoppige bemanning wilde dit weekend of pal daarna met hun éénmotorige dubbeldekker neerstrijken op de vroegere Luchtmachtvliegbasis bij Enschede. De crew moet nu noodgedwongen uitwijken naar het Duitse vliegveldje Klausheide bij Nordhorn-Lingen. Volgens hun woordvoerster Marjan van Lambalgen wil het drietal later dit jaar alsnog feestelijk landen op de Twentse baan.

Woordvoerder Maarten Hilbrandie van de Militaire Luchtvaart Autoriteit (MLA) bevestigt dat nu geen toestemming voor een Twentse landing is gegeven, nadat de huidige en toekomstige eigenaren van het vliegveld daar negatief over hebben geadviseerd.
