RIAT July 16 and 17 2011 RAF Fairford - Park & View

Post by mirage 69 »

I'm planning to go to the departure day, is it correct that I need a Park and View ticket or is there a special ticket for the departure day?

You can go inside to the Park and View enclosure, if you do that you need a Park and View ticket. Or you stay off-base, then you don't need that ticket. Mind for departure day Park and View is more expensive then during arrival days.

Is it possible to take pictures from outside the park and view on the runway or only when planes are "on finals".
Do I need a stair to take pictures on runway?

It might be possible, although I never did it. I've seen people standing outside on the side of treshold 27 in the past, so it could be done. If you get the angles you are looking after is something else.

In the past there was only a part of park and view where stairs were allowed (and from what I understood, this has been enforced) and this part was not offering the best angles for photos in take off, unless they use runway 09. This year there has been talk in advance stairs would be banned completely from Park and View, due to massive complaints about blocking other's view. I don't know how it happened in real life, as I only did the showdays.

You need to be inside the Park & View area to get really decent shots of the aircraft on the runway.

If you are inside the P&V area you do not need stairs. BTW: there is a special enlosure for stairs in the P&V area (and yes, use of stepladders outside this area is not allowed and yes, this is enforced)

So for departures there's only the P&V tickets? No tickets that get you on base during departures?

You could opt for one of the ´Friends´ packages:

With which it is not apreciated by the other friends if you leave your seat at the grandstand. Of course walking around over the base itself is out of the question this day, due to the massive amounts of moving aircraft and other vehicles.
