Forum rules
ImageThis is the forum to share your recent aviation photos with the rest of the community, being photos not older than six months at the moment of topic opening. Theme-based topics, not about recent events, should go into the sub-forum.
Although we will not screen beforehand, we reserve the right to delete any images, especially if clearly unsharp or otherwise low in quality. For more information on how to upload you images, check this post.
In topic titles, please use airfield names in stead of just codes, and be clear about what kind of photos your viewers can expect (e.g. CIV/MIL, location etc.).

Finally, bring any photo criticism understandable and to the point, not cynical or offensive! Simultaneously, do not feel offended by criticism per se, but simply explain your motives, taste et cetera, or ignore if you wish so.

I somehow missed your post entirely :) sorry about that.
Mad Viper wrote:Andreas question: If for some reason I had a great day at Schiphol with some great photos, but I missed al the unusual visitors, am I allowed to post in a topic about Schiphol or not?
Offcourse, name it "EHAM Schiphol 14-12-2010 Regulars”
And what about Eindhoven, Maastricht, Rotterdam, Volkel, Leeuwarden, Gilze-Rijen, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Heathrow, Luton or other airports that keep showing up here in the photo forum.
Same, just change the topic names.
And why are the movements, including the regulars ones posted in the movement forums? They could be deleted also, right? Only unusaul movements for that matter. Cause those regular movements are boring to some.
Movements seem to be movements and i don’t know or care about that just one bit, so i would not know how to answer your question :)
And I'm reading a lot about that the hobby is growing old and not many young people are participating in the hobby, and does it help when a young guy is posting his first pictures with his new camera and immediately people start bragging about his photos being boring. Does that really help in promoting the hobby?
No, it surely doesn’t. That’s why everyone is welcome to post their pictures. Old? I don’t think so, there are hundreds off young people getting into photography. The problem is that "for example” a new guy doesn’t read the rules forum or the "how to post pictures” topic and they start asking questions which usually get the more experienced guys into an -Flame off- mode and a discussion is born again. Result: new guy will not post again.

Better to stimulate in the beginning and if the new guy/girl sticks, he’ll/she’ll be asking around in no time...

Don’t forget that everyone started with this hobby somewhere down the line and nobody was excellent, sharp, great compo or what ever reason you can think of in the first place.

Groet,

Hi !
A question from my side :
How about posting :
a. scans of negatives/slides we received via purchase ,swopping or donation , but of which we are the owners.
b. scans of photos of others which we managed to save and which otherwise would nearly have been thrown away.
c. scans of official photos which were received by us especially for publication-purposes.
Are they acceptable or will they be removed ? :?: :uhuh:

kind regards ,
Hans

Stick to the rule and the law:
Publish via web or in print (any form) only those items of which you are sure you are the legal owner of the copyright.
If you are not or unsure. DO NOT PUBLISH.

+ c. depends on the disclaimer

Okay , that helps : thanks so far !
Of all the negatives /slides , that I owe , I consider myself also as the legal copyright owner , but am I also the legal owner of the copyright of a print (photo), that I owe , being made out of a negative/slide , which still is or may be in the hands of the original photographer or someone else , both not known to me ? :?:
There is no doubt , that I am the owner of that photo , but also of its copyright in order to be posted / published ? The difference between a negative /slide and a print(photo) is - in my opinion- the fact , that - on one hand - each negative / slide is unique and - on the other hand- that there can be lots of photos , made out of one negative/slide , which are owned by different people .
kind regards,
Hans

Toughy indeed. The most correct way to proceed is probably: if in any doubt at all, do not publish. Theoretically, this doubt could only be removed by a prior, clear agreement about the copyright.
Having said that, I feel it is acceptable for you to use your best judgement and act accordingly. IMHO there would be no reason for us to object to photos of which you may not be the (only) copyright holder, after your careful consideration and decision to share them here (likely with a credit to the maker).

Re: IDEA: Mil / Civ behind topics

Hello Chris,

Looking at the aviation photo forum rules: "In topic titles, please use airfield names in stead of just codes, and describe what kind of photos you post."

It doesn't say that clear that you have to state mil or civ in your topic, it only says to be as specific as possible in your topic title. We should emphasize on the fact that posters should be as specific as possible regarding the topic tittle.

By the way i have merged your posting with the already existing topic in the aviation photo forum regarding the forum rules.

Personally, I could not agree more, Chris. However, for many posters it apparently is :?
As we strive to keep the number of rules as low as possible, in this forum more than anywhere else, I am hesitant to make your suggestion into an official rule. However, it seems an excellent suggestion and I will emphasize the matter as such in the forum rules.

Well why don't you go out then and show some other things, or try to click on the non-schiphol topics, plenty of non-KLMs there.

Maybe we should stop nagging about what is posted here and encourage people to post there photos here, instead of other forums. Cause all that nagging about photos doesn't really help in advertising a site.

I had many shots posted here but it seems that they were not interesting enough.

And how do you measure that, amount of views or reactions you get? What I've learned is that you don't need to expect any comments on photos at this site. Especially if they general population finds them 'to boring' or 'to regular'.

You can also view other forums for photos. Lots of good stuff from EHEH is posted at the site of EWAS, much more then is posted here.

I only wondered why there are almost no posters anymore wich post only the rare visitors. Maybe they had the same experience here as I had : No interest in such stuff.

Off course there is interest in rare stuff at any airport. But like I said, because of the constant complaining here about being to boring or to regular, it is not fun anymore to post. Cause the a/c can be rare for schiphol or other airport, if you post a side-on shot, people can start nagging about that it is a boring shot. Or after the 5th visit of the type, people may think that it is not rare anymore. At least thats my personal view. I hate to define which a/c is rare for schiphol or not. Cause even a KLM can be rare, it is all in the details. And why should you only post the rare visitors? What's wrong with the occasional KLM shot?
Cheers, Michel
