For week 3 i see Swiss F18 expected at EHLW, The Swiss use to do missions in previous Embows, in Cazaux in 2011 they flew from Swiss to the Bicarosse range, made a fuelstop at Cazaux and went home afterwards. So perhaps these will also be for Meppen range.

I found an article on http://www.noz.de/lokales/meppen/artike ... em-emsland
Most of it is not new for us, but maybe interesting is that from 5 till 8 october from 1500-1700 LT, 14 oct from 1400-1700 LT and 15 Oct from 800-1100 LT the neighbourhood of Tinnen (west of the Meppen Range) will see more activity than on other days, especially by "quiet" transport aircraft, according to the article.
Meppen.
Usually the roads surrounding the range area are closed on weekdays; only in weekends you have acces, also on the paved military road that runs along the east side of the range (between the range and the villages Klein & Gross Stavern and along the Meppen Heliport). Anyone who knows of this road was open last week? There's also a spot in the north-west area of the range that's always accessible. It's called Siedlung Kathen from where you have a view on the northern part of the range. When someone has other good spotting places please let us know in this topic.

I was there Saturday on 26/9, only CH-53GS 85+12 was noted on the helipad. I assume it had it's fair trials on Monday. The Norwegians arrived Monday and I would expect the Chinook to have so too.
Forgive me my ignorance but is the Meppen range in any way connected to the Nordhorn range?
I was checking FR24 for Meppen and while Meppen is buzzed by a micro light, I see a Discovery Skyhawk in the area. It either seems to be working the Nordhorn range but it might as well be in a holding pattern waiting for the microlight to clear the Meppen area.
No, they are completely different entities.
The Meppen Range EDR34 belongs to WTD 91, which is a Bundeswehr test unit. It is the largest instrumented shooting range in Europe.
The Nordhorn Range belongs to the Luftwaffe and is a pure air-to ground range.
They do have one thing in common though; both ranges started as test grounds for the Krupp factory.
