Ålborg, also known as Aalborg, is the home of the transport fleet of the Danish Air Force. Not so long ago it used to be a fighter base, providing home to F-16s. The last Vipers left however by the end of 2005. New hangars were built on the western side of the airfield, to house the newly purchased C-130Js. Also the CL-604 Challenger bizjets can be found on this base. Next to Esk721, the transport squadron, Aalborg also hosts an detachment of Helicopter squadron Esk722 flying with the EH101 Merlin. The Sea King was phased out in 2007.
Aalborg is also a civil airport.
Please note that Ålborg is pronounced as Olbog. This may be useful when asking for directions!
From the E45, take exit 21 Norresundy-N and follow the directions to Lindhol. The airport should be signposted here already. Follow the Forbindelsesvejen which takes you right to the civil terminal
The C-130Js can be seen regularly at spot 3. Eric Frikke
