Abu Suwayr houses an F-16 wing of the Egypt AF.
Be aware, plane spotting is neither understood nor appreciated in Egypt!
The base used to be an RAF station and remnants of its WWII infrastructure are still visible. It has two east-west runways, of which 09-27 is the preferred one. Many drive-thorough double shelters house the F-16s. At the thresholds there are some alert shelters as well, the south east ones are quite close to the fence, see spot 1.
The base can be easily found, but also easily missed! It is just north of the Zagazig-Ismailiah road along the Ismailiah canal that also runs past Bilbays. Abu Suwayr is about 20km west-south west of Ismailiah. However, the signposts are mostly in Arabic. Abu Suwayr is only signposted when coming from Ismailiah. Anyway, opposite a bridge over the canal there is a road leading into the centre of the village. The gate is left immediately after the rail road crossing.
