Cairo - West

1South side gateguard

Spotting around Cairo-West is rather hopeless. One easy catch is the unmarked MiG-21 that guards the southern gate. It is slightly lower than the northern part of the highway which, in turn, is higher than the southern half. So, if you come from Alexandria, you will have to pay attention and look back after passing it.

2South side view

South of the highway, many new residential areas are being constructed. These are mostly of the resort-type, no access for the general public. From one of the roads that runs through them, distant views of the ramps can be had. No chance of reading serials though. In this position, you are west of the approach to runway 34 as well, albeit 3.5 km from the threshold. The fighter aircraft will most likely turn in north of the highway, but the larger aircraft might approach straight.

3East side approach

There is a road running between walled off military areas and plantation estates. It is not exactly clear if you can enter it, but about 1.5 km into this road you will be just south of the approach to runway 28. The threshold is 5 km away though...
