Cairo-West is a large military airfield in the desert west of Cairo, although the residential areas are moving in.
Be aware, plane spotting is neither understood nor appreciated in Egypt!
There used to be three runways, but the north-south one was closed down and is now partly used as taxiway. There is an elaborate taxi track with dispersals on the north side. However, most activity is around two large ramps. The south-western one is used by the Phantoms and the one slightly east of that, by the Hawkeyes.
The place is huge and it is surrounded by private property, mostly olive plantations. Sometimes the gates to the plantation roads are open, so you can venture into the myriad of tracks on the north side of the base. But this will not bring you much.
The base can not be missed, it is perched on the Cairo-Alexandria desert road which swerves around it on the south side.
