Fayid is a newly constructed base south of the former RAF Faid. It was purpose built to hold a wing of F-16 fighter aircraft and is situated on the edge of the desert amidst military terrain, west of the Hurghada-Ismailiya highway.
Be aware, plane spotting is neither understood nor appreciated in Egypt!
It is a modern air base with large double drive-through shelters and neat geometrical lines. The main runway is east-west and we suspect that the taxi way doubles as alternate runway too. Of course, the base is walled all around and has watch towers too.
You can not miss it if you take road 24 from Ismailiya south bound to Suez, it will appear on your right hand side after 25 km.
Alternatively, when if you come from Cairo, take the short cut from the Ismailiyah desert road. This is called El Kantra-El Ismailiyah road and branches off about 1 km after a toll plaza about 30 km before Ismailiyah.
