The base is located South of the city of Jever. AFter the disbandment of JBG38 Friesland at Jever, the only remaining unit was the Luftwaffe Instandhaltungsgruppe 21. This unit was responsible for overhaul on F-4Fs and thereafter involved in scrapping former Luftwaffe Tornados. Although not the most active place to be, it offersed a couple of relatively good spots for the hobby.
Operations at Jever finally ended by late September 2013 and it was decommisioned as an air base. The infrastructure stayed untouched so far.
The airbase is in a wooded area. There are two large shelter areas on the south side near the eastern and western runway thresholds. The north side has two dispersal areas. Some ramps are situated on both sides of the runway, so it is hard to get a good overview.
The easiest way of getting to Jever is by taking either the A28 (towards Oldenburg) or the A29 towards Wilhelsmhaven. From these highways, you either (A28) head for Aurich (and then on to Jever) or, if you are using the A29, take the B210 towards Jever.
