Another very open Swiss air force base where there is a lot of runway crossing to perform to reach the very good public viewing area. The base has two helicopter squadrons and a department of RUAG as well.
The airport has a north-south orientated runway with a large apron to the east of it. Also to the east is a taxi track which leads to this apron and is used for take-offs and landings by the helicopter force.
Driving along the highway A8 Spiez - Interlaken - Heigerswil, the airfield can be seen on the eastern side. Coming from the north, you have to take the exit to Alpnachstad and Alpnach. At the next crossing, follow the signs towards Alpnach until you cross a stream. Take the exit to the left, follow the signs to the base, and follow the road to the right to arrive at a crossing. Cross the railroad and underneath the highway to arrive at the airport. Coming from the south, take the exit towards Alpnach and after leaving the highway take the road to the right and follow the turn to the left to drive to the airport along the runway.
