Do you like US Navy Hornets? Then you really have to go here: 16 squadrons of them, from the 'classic' F/A-18A (back in the days) to the supersized F/A-18E/F Super Hornet (current days) and 2 squadrons operating the F-35C Lightning II. Only one tiny problem: it is very difficult to get close to all the action as the base is huge. Be advised, if you do not have a base visit arranged disappointment may lie ahead.
As stated, the base is huge. The manoeuvring area itself is in the northwestern corner of the base, with two runways bordering the ramps. Most take offs are from 32R, but recovery is split between the runways. The training unit is located on one of the western ramps and seems to use 32L often then.
Interstate 5 (Sacramento - Los Angeles) runs 18 miles west of the above map. Take exit 334 and this will bring you to highway CA-198. Turn east towards Lemoore/Hanford. After 19 miles you will pass the preserved aircraft at the main gate.
FYI: at the intersection I-5/CA-198 you will find a small airport with some GA traffic.
