General

Founded in 1942 as Naval Auxiliary Air Station (NAAS) Kingsville, it served nearby Naval Air Station Corpus Christi as an auxiliary field, aiding in training many of the U.S Navy's pilots for World War II. Some of the Kingsville Naval Auxiliary Fields were assigned to NAAS Kingsville. In 1968, the airfield was redesignated as Naval Air Station Kingsville, and has hosted flight training operations throughout its existence. Naval Air Station Kingsville is one of the U.S. Navy’s premier locations for jet aviation training. The naval air station’s primary mission is to train Student Naval Aviators for the United States Navy and United States Marine Corps and tactical jet pilots for other select NATO and Allied countries. To accomplish its mission, NAS Kingsville is home to Training Air Wing Two. The wing was the first in the Navy to operate the Boeing T-45 Goshawk aircraft. Originally equipped with the T-45A model of the Goshawk, the wing began accepting new production T-45C model aircraft in 2005. The station also operates a nearby satellite airfield, NALF Orange Grove.

Layout

Around the Airport

1Morning Landing RWY 35

Driving on Highway 77, take the exit Farm to Market Rd 1356/General Cavazos Blvd. At the traffic lights, take a left under the highway onto General Cavados Blvd. Take the second right onto Golf Course Road. Take the second left onto E Farm to market Road 1712 and follow this road until you arrive at the T crossing. Now take a left onto N Country 1070 until you arrive at the airfield fencing and the road takes a left. Park here for some good shots for runway 35L. This is the normal preferred landing runway and most aircraft on the approach for runway 35R will make a touch and go and will land on runway 35L. It is a good spot till about 1400LT.

2Landing RWY 13/17

Driving on Highway 77, take the exit towards Corral Ave/Santa Gertrudy Avenue. At the second crossing, take a left under the highway onto E Santa Gertrudy Avenue. This road is north of the approaches to runway 13 and runway 17 so depending on the recoveries, take your positions. In the afternoon, nice banking shots onto rwy 17L can be expected.

3Preserved A-4

When driving along the trunk route for Highway 77, next to the highway, to decorate some sports fields, is this A-4C 145113/B on a pole.
