Initially, in 2003, 20 NH90s (16 TTH, 4 SOH) were ordered but due to the economic turmoil that hit Greece several years later, some deliveries were postponed. 14 NH90-TTH utility and two NH-90-SOH Special Forces configurations are in service by 2023.

The 1st and 2nd TEEP (Tagma Epithetikon Elikopteron or Attack Helicopter Battalion) and all other units that were stationed at Stefanovikio air base have moved out.

The area in which the base resides was hit by severe flooding in September 2023 which led to the total destruction of the base on the 8th and 9th of September. Pictures of partly submerged AB205/UH-1H and Apache helicopters circulated the internet. The rescued helicopters of the Battalions have since been relocated to Alexandria and Larissa respectively, and a permanent solution is being sought. It has been reported that at least 7 helicopters were lost during the flood and the total damage is estimated (and unofficial) around 2 billion euros.
Storm Daniel was the deadliest Mediterranean tropical-like cyclone in recorded history outside of the north Atlantic Ocean and as a result Stefanovikion has lost its air base status permanently.
307 PEV was named 307 TSYAY previously.

Annually an arms parade is held over Athens which can be perfectly viewed and photographed from Mount Lycabettus. This AH-64A Apache belongs to 1 TEEP at Stefanovikio.
