1The F-5A

First spot to stop is at the military gate, at your left when exiting the arrival terminal. Besides you are facing the sun, it is also strongly not recomended to take a picture of it because we all know what can happen in Greece.

2The main apron

If you have hired a car, go in the direction of Iraklion city. When you have just passed the main terminal building, you can see parked aircraft from very close. Also this time do not make any pictures, because there is a military compound behind you.

3Runway 09

Drive further in the direction of the city and after 1 kilometre, take the first turn to the right. All other previous roads on your right were in fact private property of companies. After 400 meters, and when you have passes the beginning of Runway 09, go to the right. Along this road there are various spots to stop and watch aircraft arrive or depart.

4The RF-84F

To get to the RF-84F, go left to the main road (Makariou) towards the airport. Before you pass the military compound, go right so that you will see the compound on your left. Keep following this road and do not cross the highway but take the left turn of the road. This road is the so called "old road" and it will lead you to the East and after 1 km there is a closed gate of the military side of Iraklion. From here the RF-84F isd vissible just behind two buildings with some flags around it.

5Visitors area

After you saw the RF-84F, keep following the "old road" for another kilometre. You will experience the road going down and will see the airfield on a hill left of you. After the kilometre there is a road going up the hill towards the base. When you follow this roadyou will get close the the platform where the Mi-26s and other visitors can be found. You are also very close to the military part of the base, so be carefull.

6The Beach

If you want to enjoy the sun, and runway 27 is in use, keep following the road towards the beach. From spot 6 on there are various locations where you can park your car and settle on the beach. From here every aircraft that arrives can be seen and also be photographed without many problems.
