General

Andravída is one of three bases on the Peloponnesus peninsula. It houses the remaining HAF Phantom fleet with 338, 339 Mira and 117 SMET based. Also a tactical fighter school is located here for doctrine training.

Layout

The airfield has a north-south runway with shelter areas in the north east and south west corner. The north west houses the tactical fighter school's apron which can be seen from the northern perimeter fence. The base also houses a tactical training course which means there are usually a couple of fighters present from other units. The ramp for this unit is situated in the north western part of the base.

Getting There

The base is conveniently located close to the E55 which runs from Patras to Pirgos. Leave this road at the village of Lechaina and go east.

Around the Airport

1Northern approach

The northern approach is situated along the road from E55 to Mélissa. It is advisable to find a place just off the Lechaina-Mélissa road, preferably the northern side. Not ideal since the aircraft are a bit high and you are far from the touch-down point.

2Northern shelter area

It is possible to follow a small road track close to the fence here. Some of the aircraft on the tactical training course ramp as well as aircraft parked in front of shelters can be spotted from here.

3Southern approach - PM

Luckily, they use the southern approach more often. The southern approach can be found along the road leading from Andravída to Traganó. You will have to find a spot along a farmland road.

4Southern approach - AM

For morning light, you have to use a track to the east of spot 3.

5Southern shelter area

Again there are tracks leading along the fence on the south side from which some aircraft can be seen if they are parked outside.

Because there are always some aircraft parked in front of the shelters and ramps a short "hit-and-run" on both northern and southern areas is possible.

Beautiful spook in pale blue-grey camouflage.
